Corpse Bride: Victor van Dort [INFP 9w1]

Corpse Bride: Victor van Dort [INFP 9w1]

Function Order: Fi-Ne-Si-Te

Victor is an idealistic and romantic young man who lives by his heart, who finds it difficult to express his intense emotions, and instead, fumbles his way around them. He gets tongue-tied and nervous with girls. He believes any marriage should come out of passionate love, rather than simply obedience to one’s cultural expectations. But he is also somewhat fickle in…

Can you elaborate on what you find to be the ‘immensely excellent’ aspects of 9s? Because my 9 sibling really gets down reading the many descriptions of 9s as boring, weak or lifeless creatures. She went on a forum recently that said 9s have the least personality and got pretty sad about it, so if you could tell us what you like about 9s that might help me cheer her up :)

9s are naturally accepting, tolerant, pleasant people to be around, who make no one else uncomfortable, who never come across as self-absorbed, and who are earnestly able to mediate between people without playing favorites. They have no interest in harming anyone else or curtailing their views, because they see everyone’s side as equal and worthy of being heard. They create safe spaces for others to be earnestly themselves without judgment, and bring an aura of peace to their environment. One little 9 girl I knew would pick out the most anxious person in the room, sit on their lap, and they would soon relax just holding her, because of the peaceful and loving acceptance of them that she radiated out through her body. Being around a healthy 9 is like coming home. They are also imaginative and creative personalities, often with melancholy romanticism and longing for a better world tied into their inner being; there’s a reason so many of them are misidentified with 4.

Hi! INFJ here, not ISTP. I'm a 9 but don't really identify with the description of nines that say we are indecisive. I find that I actually have little patience when others can't make up their minds about things, especially trivial things like where to eat. Is that my 8 wing coming out??

funkymbtifiction:

Yup, and probably an sp-dom social variant, they are more grounded, aggressive, and present to themselves due to focusing on their sp needs (plus, if you were sp9w8, you’d also have… sp8, which is direct in going after what it wants).

funkymbtifiction:

Hi! Do you have an idea of type and Enneagram of Dean from Gilmore Girls? He seems ESP to me, but wanted your opinion.

Thank you!

I see him as an SFP and a 6. When he cheats on his wife with Rory, it’s because it’s how he feels and he sees the marriage as being “over” – he doesn’t consider his wife’s feelings or even factor them into his decisions. He doesn’t fit right with her, so he goes back to someone who understands him better in a rather unhealthy, selfish Fi way. (Contrasted to Rory’s SFJ-ness, where she focuses on betraying his wife and how she might feel, in addition to not feeling right about her mother being “at” her for being “the other woman.” Rory has “everyone…” feelings, and Dean has “… my feelings.”) But yeah, his Se is obvious – he loves being physical and hands on with his work, he builds Rory a car, and his answer whenever he’s upset is to punch out “the other guy.” I’d have to think about whether he’s ISFP or more impulsive.

He’s a sexual 6, so somewhat aggressive, over-protective, a bit traditional, and caring, but also good-natured and cautious.

I still don't really understand what Ni is, as a function. I get what all the other cognitive functions entail, but Ni remains extremely confusing to me. I keep thinking it's being able to come up with a really far reaching plan, or being able to predict future consequences but neither of those seem accurate or limited to Ni-users.

This is Ni.

Centres of Intelligence

Body/Gut - 891

Anger-based, how do you assert yourself as a separate individual being that is different than others, “anger” is standing up to reality, ego boundaries

8: Overly asserting one’s existence, easy access to anger, pushing against any threat to their being.

9: Blurred boundary between the self and others, external surroundings can fill up the 9 as they are malleable as a separate being.

1: Finding a way to exist that’s “right,” adding the superego into the body space, strong boundary.

Heart/Image - 234

Shame, who are you supposed to be to yourself and others, the shame of not measuring up to that image, emotional processing.

2: Image of being necessary and loved by others, being needed and indispensable as a warm and caring presence to others.

3: Image of being the best of whatever it is you are, being marketable to others as a person.

4: Image of being separate from others and too unworthy to belong, making the negativity of being an alien something beautiful.

Trifix Cheat Sheet

Determining your full Trifix can often take years of study and introspection. However, once you do, the richness of information is revelatory. Enneagrammer coach, Emeka Okorafor, put together a cheat sheet as a starting point to considering what your trifix might be.

Heart

In the Heart/Image center your fixation is your preferred way of maintaining a self-image. One might feel “I should” show:

2 – sweetness and care, positive emotions, heartfelt love and affection, goodness and serving.

3 – excellence, accomplishments, repressing emotion, value and success fitting a recognizable mold.

4 – withdrawn individuation, negative self-image, chronic disappointment, self-distinct taste in aesthetic.

Head

In the Head/Thinking center your fixation is how you’re compensating for not knowing and trying to navigate and understand what’s real. Each head fix is overdoing a different style of insight:

5 – dissecting/uncovering the unknown, conceptualizing, granular over-focus.

6 – hyper-vigilance, guidance outside of myself, orienting to a system or structure.

7 – possibilities, animated interesting-ness, multi-faceted options for experience.

Gut

In the body center your fixation is how you’re maintaining ego boundaries. It’s how you’re creating psychological boundaries and distance internally and externally:

8 – forcefulness and impact, pushing and expanding out, amping up at the expense of softer and smaller inner part.

9 – fuzzy and unclear, inner confusion from dispersed and cluttered wants and needs, diffuse absorbing of outside influences.

1 – rigidity and self-control, high standards of purity maintained by self-restriction, moralistic criticism and judgment.

kaellinne asked:

Could you give any example of INFJ 7 or 6w7 (maybe unhealthy) character, please?

funkymbtifiction:

I don’t have a character example, since 7 is a rare type for IJs, but 7 would have either strong interaction with Ni-dom ‘detachment’ from reality and/or over-use of Se. How? Well, Ni-doms want things a certain way and have high expectations, they do not settle for less, and they are highly specific in how they envision their outcomes, since they spend a lot of time turning things around in their head to find the perfect angle from which to view reality. A 7 Ni-dom therefore might be prone to over-idealized thinking – taking external information and refusing to see the negative side of it, instead transforming it into an idealized view of reality that is nowhere near the actual truth. INJ 7s might all be prone to this, but the INFJ more so because low Ti usually looks for ‘confirmation rather than contradiction’ for their Ni-dom perceptions, leading them to discard any evidence that doesn’t agree with their strong idealism. The 7 would also make them prone, I think, to envisioning things in their head and abandoning them before ever actually doing anything with them, rather than the usual 7 Pe trait of ‘do this for a week and then drop it when it gets boring’ – the temptation for an INJ is to stay in their head and avoid the outer world, but the 7 would also want to experience some of it, since they are forever ‘running away’ from unpleasant things / boredom / broken relationships. There would be a lot of avoidance of their own pain and others, a lot of denial of wrongdoing (since 7s are prone to rationalizing their hurtful / selfish decisions rather than owning up to them), avoidance of people who ‘bring them down’ or make them want to introspect negatively.

Lastly, again depending on whether the 7 channels itself into Ni or Se, there might be impulsive 7 behaviors through Se – impulse buying, over-spending, over-eating, binge-watching, cramming their schedule with fun things to do, feeling covetous when other people go on trips or have experiences without them, orienting oneself toward sexual experiences, or various forms of gluttony. But they would handle these clumsily rather than with the ‘confidence’ of an SP.

funkymbtifiction:

Nancy is a very hard character to type. I’ll take you through my thought process. She seems to put her feelings aside to do things. Even in season one when her “friends” were bullying Jonathan after they found out about him secretly taking photos of their party and her approaching him more delicately, I didn’t see it as her Fe-ing or being sympathetic, but rather having a hunch about it being related to the disappearance of her friend and putting her feelings aside to follow that lead. aggressiveness wouldn’t have worked with Jonathan, she did it in a way that he would respond. (Te, Ni)

I didn’t get the impression at first that she thought Jonathan knew something – I think she merely felt sorry for him, knowing that he was Will’s brother, that his family didn’t have much money, and did not like Steve breaking his camera, so she was nice to him. But I don’t argue with you that she can put her feelings aside to get something done – since as you point out, we see this a lot in season three with her work, where she’s peeved at being treated like the coffee girl but puts up with it because she figures it will advance her career eventually.

In season two when she felt that she’s being fake and not her true self it came out in a very unhealthy way with childish outbursts and heavy drinking/partying (could be inferior Fi or Se)

Yeah, that could be inferior Fi. She literally had to get drunk to say what she wanted to say all along – that she hates lying about Barbara and she doesn’t feel like she wants to date Steve anymore; she really just went back to him out of… habit? Fear of being with Jonathan? I dunno, but I thought it was a weird choice in season one, after she spent all that time with Jonathan.

Wanted justice for Barb because she felt it was the right thing. And literally became obsessed with giving her family closure and didn’t rest until she found a way with the “watering things down” metaphor  scene. Extremely stubborn once she sees finds a purpose and pursues it with passion (Te, Ni)

First sentence – good reference for inferior Fi, which can be stubborn when it comes to what it wants to do. Don’t know that an ESTJ wouldn’t also pursue a course of justice and want to take down the bad guys, though. Still, she shares Hermione Granger’s tritype, right down to the instincts. Are they alike?

She’s such a badass in crisis and doesn’t hesitate for a second. She takes the lead and deals with it first hand. I don’t know, she’s such a leader that way. Very responsible and dependable.

Yeah, she is, which is probably Te. Could be tert-Se also.

We see her in season three focusing on her career and taking it seriously. She has always had a sense of wanting to constantly improve herself like it’s her main focus. Whether being more herself and more authentic than she was last year, or righting a wrong in Barb’s case, or taking her job seriously and trying to find stories for the paper. She doesn’t accept that “it is what it is” and women aren’t taken seriously where she works, and keeps trying to prove herself even after being humiliated several times. I have a strong feeling if she’s given the responsibility to run the paper she’d come up with a system in a day and do it 10x better than those stupid men.

Well, yes. She is a 3 after all. ;)

She’s interesting that’s for sure. My conclusion is that she’s a xxTJ.

Probably Te-dom, yes. But I have Carnival Row and possibly Dark Crystal (if it’s not too weird / boring for me – I never finished the original) to watch this weekend, so I’m not sure when I’ll get back around to Stranger Things. :)
